Me & My Monsters

[26 x 30min, Tiger Aspect, Jim Henson Company & Baker Coogan for BBC, 2010-11]

Me and My Monsters is a new sitcom for kids featuring fantastic puppets made by the Jim Henson Creature Company. Eddie (pictured) and his family have moved to the UK from Australia only to find the basement of their new house is inhabited by a trio of crazy monsters who prove impossible to evict.

I wrote all the music for the series apart from the title theme which was written by Gary Go. It was a great show to work on and the monsters really are hilarious. This was the first project I’ve ever worked on exclusively via Skype, email and telephone (aside from a couple of initial meetings), as it was an international co-production, filmed and edited in Australia… but the whole experience turned out to be pretty straightforward. The way of the future, I guess. Maybe time I moved to my own island in the Outer Hebrides?

The first episodes were broadcast twice a day on CBBC in October 2010, but the series is going out on BBC1 from 4th January 2011 at 3.35pm daily. I believe it is also being shown in Australia and Germany. On the latter half of the series I enlisted the help of the very talented composer, Mark Hinton Stewart.

Here’s a news clip about the making of the show from an Australian news programme.

The TV Times said about the show… “Sometimes a children’s programme comes along that’s so inspired it becomes just as popular with adults… and here’s another family hit from the brilliant creators of The Muppet Show”.

Radio Times: “They don’t come much bigger than this fantastic new daily sitcom.”

The series was also made pick of the day in the Guardian and Time Out.
