Mike the Knight

[52 x 12min, Hit Entertainment / Corus for CBeebies (UK) & Treehouse (Canada), 2011-12]

“Mike the Knight, He’s a Brave Young Hero…”

This new series follows the adventures of Mike, a young knight in training, along with his friends in the magical world of Glendragon. Mike’s closest friends are his two dragons, Sparkie and Squirt (brilliantly voiced by Colin McFarlane & Russell Tovey respectively), a young troll, and his horse Galahad. His sister, Evie, is a trainee wizard and makes just as many mistakes as Mike.

The show started airing in Canada, the UK and France in Autumn 2011 and will be coming to quite a few other countries throughout 2012. It’s already proving very  popular and, as the series has been produced by Hit Entertainment (Bob the Builder, Thomas the Tank Engine), the hope is that Mike will play a big part in kids lives for a while yet.

The great-lunged Richard Oliver sings the opening theme tune, while my own voice can be heard on the end credits. Every episode is bookended by the little songs of the village bard, Fernando, who was voiced by the young and talented Matteo Bragoli.

If you’ve got kids under five, you’ve got to check out this series on CBeebies (or iPlayer).
