SPECIAL TIME

what happened to that special time
between 3am and nine
staining teeth on cheap red wine
playing ‘i have never’
most of the people left before
a few have crashed out on the floor
we thought we were so hardcore
we thought we’d live forever

are those days really over
and what were they replaced by?
lazy evenings on the sofa
watching friends repeats on sky
after such a wild summer
this feels more like autumn
cuddled up with a tv dinner
watching graham norton

now food allergies are catered for
the carpet’s gone – a stripped wood floor
but we are edging towards the door at midnight
like nervous cinderallas
excuses now come quick and lame
a furtive glance and we explain
“we really should get the last train”
collecting coats and umbrellas

are those days really over
and what were they replaced by?
lazy evenings on the sofa
watching friends repeats on sky?
and if those days are really over
do i really miss them?
let’s settle down upon the sofa
and let’s have a kiss then
