RHYTHM OF RAIN
peter and jenny should be talking to each other
but they can’t cough up a single word
some mutual friends insisted on their getting together
and their protests wouldn’t be heard
anyway now peter’s started talking and he’s trying his best
he is telling jenny all about his job
but he’s thinking back to alice on the day that she left
and jenny’s back in acton splitting up with rob
they are lost
all of their lines are crossed
and they can’t ignore the deafening roar of
the rhythm of rain beating in their hearts
it’s all that either of them hears
and the rhythm will drown out every other sound
until the heartache disappearsnow jenny’s telling peter what she does for unesco
helping the developing world out of its mess
but she’s thinking back to rob dancing down the aisle in tesco
and peter’s back with alice in pizza express
they are lost
all of their lines are crossed
and they can’t ignore the deafening roar of
the rhythm of rain beating in their hearts…as peter and jenny say good night to each other
there’s an awkward moment by her door
but she needs time for her heart to recover
and it’ll take a little longer for his bitterness to thaw
cos they are lost
until their hearts defrost
and they can’t ignore the deafening roar of
the rhythm of rain beating in their hearts
it’s all that either of them hears
the rhythm has drowned out every other sound
in a tidal wave of tears
the rhythm of rain beating in their hearts
from a cloud that never clears
and the rhythm beats on all night long
until the heartache disappears
