HOMO SAPIENS SAPIENS

here we are
sitting in a bar
i suggested that we go to
on the pretext that i had something i wanted to show you
you ask me what is
but there’s a space inside my head
waiting to be filled by all the clever things i might have said

i’ve got so much to tell you
that i’ve got nothing to say
i’ve got the perfect moment
and i’m throwing it away

i’m homo sapien sapiens
i’m meant to be so damn smart
but i’m just sitting here like an idiot
and i can’t open my heart
i’m homo sapien sapiens
top of evolution’s tree
if i’m so clever why can’t i get it together
to ask you to go out with me?

i try to concentrate on forming a sentence
i know i’ve done it in the past
but words are just spinning around, verbs, adjectives and nouns
got to think of something and think of it fast

try to frame a question
or make an observation
but “um… er…”
is not a conversation

i’m homo sapien sapiens
i’m meant to be so darn smart
but i’m just sitting here like an idiot
and i can’t open my heart
i’m homo sapiens sapiens
there’s nothing wrong with my IQ
so how come i’m struck dumb
the moment that i talk to you?
