SONG FOR THE ELVES
this is a song for the elves
who probably don’t exist
i believed in you from the age of twelve
until i was twenty-sixi thought you’d show your faces
in a grassy glade in a wood
so i’d look for those kinds of places
as often as i could
instead of going to parties
i’d stay at home to create
a secret elvish language
in which we could communicatethis is a song for the elves
if you’re listening somewhere out there
don’t think somehow you can win me back now
it’s too late - i really don’t carei wasn’t asking for anything big
like a gang of you partying hard
just a breath on the wind or funny shaped twig
was all that was required
but you gave me nothing, not one shred of proof
not a hint not a sign not a clue
and i spent my entire youth
searching the world for youso yes, i guess i’m a little upset
in fact i would say that i’m pissed
and i’ve written this song for all of you elves
the ones that don’t exist
