M25

well you’re the one who owns the car
so you’re the one to drive
but i feel like a hitchhiker
picked up and dropped on the m25

i can’t help feeling a pang of regret
that we’ve not seen the city or countryside yet
no i can’t help feeling a little let down
when we stay on the ringroad and never go to town

well you’re the one to deal the cards
so it’s my turn to bet
but you look through me, as if you never knew me
i’m just some fellow gambler you mean to forget

i can’t help feeling a little distressed
when you hold the cards so close to your chest
and i can’t help feeling just a little dismayed
when my ace of hearts is trumped by your spade

well you’re the one who pulls the strings
and i’m left hanging below
i feel i’m a rock-climber
picking my way up a mountain of snow
