LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT

we may argue all day
i might not listen to a word that you say
when you call me darling it feels like a cuss
what the hell has happened to us?
nothing too small for us to disagree on
i want some quiet you want the tv on
i’d like a square meal - perhaps a lamb chop
you just want salad with an egg on the top
lying on opposite sides of the bed
with horrible thoughts rattling round in our heads
each wishing that we were single instead
but let’s hope we can leave it unsaid because…

every morning its love at first sight
when you draw the curtains and let in the light
i don’t recall us rowing at all
god knows what happens to me in the night

i make the coffee, you say it’s too strong
i say “make your own then”, and so it goes on
“do you have to make so much noise when you’re eating?”
“you’d better leave, you’ll be late for your meeting”
perching ourselves on each edge of the bed
with terrible thoughts rolling round in our heads
each of us wishing the other were dead
let’s hope we can bear to leave it unsaid because…

every morning its love at first sight
when you draw the curtains and let in the light
i don’t recall that we argued at all
god knows what happens to me in the night
so let in the light
